FrankenLamp

I decided to play Dr. Frankenstein in the world of the house hacks. With some of old remaining parts of used IKEA lamps (Hemma floor lamp and Lagra clip lamp) I assembled them together with a 3D printed part I designed. Here are the results:



If you are interested in 3D printing it, here is the part in Shapeways: FrankenLamp Adaptator.
You will have to take out the clamp screw from the "Lagra" lamp and get rid of the top part of the bulb retainer in the "Hemma" lamp.

Formula 1 windshield

A die-cast car formula 1 of a 1974 McLaren, scale 1:16 had lost the windshield, in the photo below there is a reference of the original part (yellow transparent windshield):



I capture the measurements with a caliper and some reference photos with a camera. Then modeled in a 3D software and finally 3D printed. Here the result:





To celebrate the success of this piece, I'm going to watch RUSH:

Heart Machine Beat

Latest update on the Machine Heart v2.0 now with animation. Finally, I could put together the animation for this idea that I originally created for a medical illustration; I always wondered how it would look animated. Thanks to SketchFab not only I was able to publish the animation but also loaded in real time techniques, see it in all directions and even load it into VR. SketchFab is a dream come true.

Using SketchFab

I have been a SketchFab observant for a while. They surprise me every time with the amount of content that modeler artists are posting every day. I'm starting to post my models as well; didn't have time before, but now with the push of the virtual reality, having a 3D collection is more relevant than ever.

SketchFab also has a view mode for VR, which it was its natural progression; still, needs adjustments on the navigation, but the solely fact that it can be used straight to VR (Google cardboard) makes it incredible compelling for content creators like me.

SketchFab is another "dream come true", similar to the 3D printing, but even more impact because it doesn't require physical materials therefore no contamination. I'm just waiting for my DayDreamsmartphone or the Lenovo Phab2 to have positional tracking...

For now just updating eagerly a 3D collection:

With the need of having portable VR, even more: pocket-size portable VR viewer, I had to design a bunch of viewers. This is one of the ideas I'm working with right now. 3D printed and it works pretty neat. Historical facts: I found around 5 to 10 patents of "stereoscopes" that are dated from 1950 - 1960 - 1970 including the venerable "Viewmaster".

ROAD TO OCULUS MOBILE

The Oculus Rift open the way to the rebirth of the VR as a feasible way to have Virtual Reality home entertainment. From that point some others have been configuring different ways to make the Oculus Rift experience portable. The DIVE and some others are the demonstration of that movement.


I tried the Oculus several times, since a friend has it and once in a while he invites to test some of the latest Oculus Rift demos. 

The DIVE option is excellent for the mobile Oculus version and also the google cardboard glasses works nice, but I have a personal design that fits more with what I think improves the mobile oculus version:

-The frame should be open in order to allow touch the phone screen
-Access to the smartphone buttons also are needed.
-A frame that can be folded and send via email, cheaply.
-A material that is waterproof.
-Lightweight, to allow an easy mobility.

Automobile Concept

I'm 3D modeling a version my own concept car Inspired in the american muscle car design. I also want to recreate the style of the car illustrations made with airbrush; I found one of this illustration in an airbrush book and I did it in airbrush in my college years for a "presentation" course.
